Pasko noon versus Pasko ngayon
Episode show notes, selected highlights, and related content:
A few Filipino holiday traditions that have changed over the years:
Simbang Gabi attendance
Before: People woke up at 3 AM and walked to church.
Now: Many join the evening masses or attend online.
Parol making
Before: Kids made parol at school using bamboo and papel de japon.
Now: People buy LED parol and themed decor from malls or online apps.
Decorations around house
Before: Families set up decors together. Tree. Lights. Belen.
Now: Less or more simple and low-key decors.
Christmas caroling
Before: Kids went house to house with drums made of old milk cans, and tambourines made of tansan.
Now: Caroling mostly happens in organized groups or at events, and you rarely see kids caroling on the streets.
Noche Buena preparations
Before: Everything was cooked at home using family recipes.
Now: Many just order online. Buy ready-to-heat trays, or go for catering.
